| About Maitland |

Welcome To MaitlandJust eight minutes from downtown Orlando, Maitland invites you to bring your family and your business to its beautiful and friendly community. The Maitland "Cultural Corridor"In 1996, Maitland citizens and officials recognized the potential to develop a social district in Maitland that would distinguish the City's identity while highlighting the historic properties that make our City so unique. This special district, called "The Cultural Corridor" was created to link key historical and cultural elements such as the Art Center, the Maitland Public Library, and the Historical Society and Telephone Museum. Three of the City parks are also part of this district and not only supply recreational opportunities but also house additional facilities for the community. The Maitland Senior Center is located within Quinn Strong Park, while the historic Waterhouse Building and Carpentry shop, Maitland Historical Society, and the Maitland Garden Club are found in Lake Lily Park. Lake Sybelia Park's upgrade will be coordinated with the future Art Center redevelopment. The City will continue to move forward with development in the Cultural Corridor with the ultimate goal of bringing the entire district up to the design standards approved in the Cultural Corridor master plan. As well, the City will insure that any development in the area will blend with and compliment the adjoining downtown redevelopment district. The goal of Orlando Avenue's Downtown Redevelopment district is a pedestrian-oriented commercial environment complementary to Maitland's developing Cultural Corridor. Orlando's Downtown will provide enjoyment and services for all citizens and reflect a community that cares. A Chamber Bridging The GapIn 1924 when the Florida Boom was building a head of steam, Maitland Avenue was the main road between Sanford and Orlando. Maitland wanted to grow and there was talk of "building a gate" across the Dixie Highway, later known as the Black Bear Trail. To accomplish this "gate" a Chamber of Commerce was organized by the citizens who numbered about 500 at that time. The Chamber of Commerce weathered the Real Estate crash of 1927 but when the banks closed in 1929, so did the Chamber of Commerce, only to come to life again nearly 30 years later. The goal of the Maitland Area Chamber of Commerce is to be a vital part of the community, supporting the activities benefiting the area and representing our members in city, state and national matters. The Chamber fosters growth among the area's businesses and lends assistance to new firms or individuals relocating to the area. Maitland is a great community in which to work, live and play. Be a member of our team and take advantage of the many benefits of Chamber membership. For more information call the Maitland Area Chamber of Commerce at 407-644-0741. |
