three official US Road to Rio

training centers for the 2016

Olympics, Clearwater recently

hosted the Youth World RS:X

Windsurfing Championships.

Clearwater Community Sailing

Center

is a place to learn and play.

Group and individual lessons are offered.

to Rio

about the positive

impact that sailing makes on

the disabled and challenged

community. Stars include Brad

Kendell, Clearwater Paralympic sailor

who competed in Rio in 2016 and Jen French,

Paralympic medalist in 2008 and 2012.

Choices abound for rentals of paddle and

stand-up boards, snorkeling and scuba gear

and personal watercraft and larger. Based

on your skills and knowledge, you can

captain your own vessel or ride the

waves as a passenger.

Underwater exploration —

there are over 10 artificial inshore

and offshore reefs along the

coast, grab your gear and explore.

Discover the former Coast Guard

Cutter Blackthorn, several tugboats

(one is 100 years old), a shrimp boat, World

War II tanks and more. Snorkeling reefs are

located closer to shore.
