Fifty miles southwest of Orlando and forty-five miles northeast of Tampa, Auburndale's neighbors are Winter Haven to the east and Lakeland to the west. The past 20 years have shown rapid growth in Business and Industry including concentrate juice plants, fresh fruit packing houses, container manufacturers, mobile home manufacturing, paper box and plastic pipe companies, distilleries, farm machinery and trucking companies.

Today the largest employers are Commercial Carrier (2,000 employees), Cutrale Citrus USA (750), Adams Packing Association (250), Colorado Boxed Beef (225), Time Warner (185), Fleetwood Homes (171), and Sewell Products of Florida, Inc. (150). Auburndale's Industrial Park is proud to be the home of Colorado Boxed Beef Company headquarters, ranked 35th of the top 200 private companies by Florida Trend magazine. Other major corporate headquarters in the Auburndale area are Scotty's, and ComCar Commercial Carrier Corporation, a quality transport company. Seal-Krete, Inc. has been located in Auburndale since the company's inception in 1981. Auburndale's rapid growth in industry in recent years is reflected in newly built subdivisions, and expanded residential areas to the north.

Paving the road to Auburndale's future is the completion of the new Polk County Parkway. As a result of the "Polkway," business and industry is expected to accelerate to accommodate local residents and attract new business in the Polk Commerce Center where currently 7 million people reside within 100 miles of the intersection of the "Polkway" and I-4.

Auburndale was designated as a "Florida Main Street" in 1992, among 45 other Florida cities. In 1997 Auburndale Chamber Mainstreet was created as a merge between the Auburndale Chamber of Commerce and the Auburndale Mainstreet Redevelopment Association. This, the first such merger in Florida, strengthens and unites the focus of business development and education while improving the effectiveness of the central business district.
