Take A Hike . . .Laid over a historic railroad bed, the Withlacoochee State Trail rolls through upland mixed forest and sandhill and wetland communities. A few of the transient species that travel through the trail include bobcats, feral hogs, river otters, turkeys, deer and a wide variety of snakes and birds. The 47-mile trail begins at Owensboro Park of Old Trilby. It was named after Owensboro Junction Crossway where all the trains used to cross. Here you’ll find a pavilion for train-watchers, grills great for a family bar-b-que, and a kiosk map with trail information. For more information contact Withlacoochee State Trail at 352/305-0051. The Green Swamp West is located along the Withlacoochee River in Dade City. With its 37,000 acres, it’s a great venue for fishing and canoeing. Hop on a bicycle and hit the designated bike trails, which follows exciting roads. For horseback riders, equestrian trails throughout the preserve allow you to get an up-close view of nature. The Suncoast Parkway located in Central Pasco is lined by 42-miles of paved trail, great for biking, jogging, walking, riding and more. Beautifully maintained, the Suncoast Trail is recognized as a National Recreation Trail. |
