Choose Your Own Adventure

Several parks and recreation areas beckon you to spend the day in the great outdoors. Lake access is available for non-motorized boats at Patterson Park while those who enjoy canoeing and kayaking can do so on the Peace River at Peace River Park. This park has historical significance as it was named by the Indians. Heritage Park marks the site of an old fort and a monument was erected here to commemorate Stonewall Jackson. A diverse program of recreational activities commence throughout the year offering all ages the chance to get active in their game of choice. A Haven for History Buffs

Fort Meade is known for being a town immersed in history. So it’s no surprise that many of the local points of interest involve historical sites. Over 300 registered historic homes can be found speckled throughout the area with building dates going as far back as 1886

Housed in an old school, the Fort Meade Historical Museum offers information and historical facts about Fort Meade. The oldest church in Polk County is located here. Christ Episcopal Church was built in the late 1800s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As well, a memorial has been constructed to commemorate the wars fought.
